Apple will roll out a new “iPhone Handoff” feature with iOS 27. The announcement was briefly mentioned during the June WWDC 2026 event, where the feature appeared in a slide that listed hundreds of other updates. No further operational details were shared at that time.

A video posted by MacRumors forum member “pdfu” demonstrates how the system functions. The demonstration uses Xcode 27’s Device Hub with two simulated iPhones. Settings can be configured through the Settings app’s Cellular menu, where users select their most frequently used iPhone as the primary device and the other as the secondary device. The primary device keeps its existing eSIM, while the secondary device receives a new eSIM. All cellular settings are then managed from the primary iPhone, and location sharing follows the currently active device.

The feature will only work if both phones run iOS 27 and if the mobile operator supports it. Early reports suggest that in the United States T‑Mobile and in Germany Deutsche Telekom could be among the first carriers to offer the service, but Apple has not yet released a definitive operator list. After roughly three months of beta testing, iOS 27 is slated to launch later this month, and more detailed information about iPhone Handoff is expected to emerge soon.
